Middle-Challenge, Day Three

Favourite Quote
Oh, dear... A favourite quote. One. Single. Favourite. Quote.....

Well, drat. I always have trouble with this sort of thing. It is hard to narrow it down to a single quote - especially since I have to decide between books and movies. So I am not going to stick to a single quote. I am going to do several.

One of my favourite quotes comes from Gandalf, in The Fellowship of the Rings and shows up both in the book and in the movie, when Frodo says that he wishes that none of this had happened.

"So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to do is decide what to do with the time that is given us."

It is such a great and applicable quote, as well as very good advice, and I have been known to quote that line to myself when I am in need of a little kick in the right direction.

I know I was rather hard on The Two Towers in my last post, but one of my favourite movies lines comes from the Battle of Helm's Deep. When Aragorn is in command of the Elvish archers and is giving them orders:

"A Eruchîn, ú-dano i faelas a hyn an uben tanatha le faelas."

Which means, "Oh, Children of God! Do not show them mercy, for they will not show you mercy." It is the first part "Oh, Children of God!" that gets me. It is totally awesome and glorious. I always want to jump up and join the fighting at that point.

Of course, The Return of the King - both as a book and as a movie - is absolutely jam packed with fantastic lines, but I absolutely love the song the Eagle sings after the defeat of the Dark Tower, especially this part:

Sing and rejoice, ye people of the Tower of Guard
for your watch hath not been in vain,
and the Black Gate is broken,
and your King hath passed through,
and he is victorious.

It is like the feeling of Easter - death is defeated, the King is victorious, and spring has come back into a barren land. And, yes, I could go  on and on. Tolkien, after all, is one of my favourite authors, and he is eminently quotable. But one must show some restraint.

Hello.
I've been rubbish about following any blogs the last few days. But I'm finally catching up on everything again and read your last posts. And they're awesome. I mean, Lord of the Rings! It's gonna be awesome.
Those quotes are great. I love pretty much all of Gandalf's lines. He is...so wise. Which sounds cheesy, but he is.
