On This Day We Celebrate:

The Marine Corps Birthday

The United States Marine Corps is 237 years old today. Marines are very big on Tradition and Decorum (at least at official functions) and so this day is quite often celebrated with a fancy dinner and dress ball. OO-rah! Semper Fi, Devil Dogs!

Padraig Pearse's Birthday

He was an Irish patriot, and also a teacher and a poet, who wrote rather lovely poems in Irish Gaelic. Here is a translation of one:

The Wayfarer

The beauty of the world hath made me sad,
This beauty that will pass;
Sometimes my heart hath shaken with great joy
To see a leaping squirrel in a tree,
Or a red lady-bird upon a stalk,
Or little rabbits in a field at evening,
Lit by a slanting sun,
Or some green hill where shadows drifted by
Some quiet hill where mountainy man hath sown
And soon would reap; near to the gate of Heaven;
Or children with bare feet upon the sands
Of some ebbed sea, or playing on the streets
Of little towns in Connacht,
Things young and happy.
And then my heart hath told me:
These will pass,
Will pass and change, will die and be no more,
Things bright and green, things young and happy;
And I have gone upon my way
Sorrowful.

And I just noticed that this post makes my 100th post!

And since today was a beautiful cold day, with several inches of snow on the ground, a changeable sky that would be grey and foreboding one moment, and bright blue the next, and the last golden leaves of autumn still clinging to the bushes and the trees, I decided to take a picture of what I can see in the bit of yard outside my hobbit-hole of a house. Happy sigh.... I just love this time of year!

I liked the poem... it was sad :( Padraig Pearse sounds cool. You should tell me about him.

Yes. This time of year is lovely. I'll be the first to admit it... and your picture of the autumn against winter was fantastic!!
God Bless

Hurray on the 100th post!!!!! And the lovely snow and leaves. Nice weather for walking all bundled up.

I trust a librarian's judgement, so if you like my cover, I am confident in it. I am kind of glad I didn't join the Foreign Legion too...sometimes.

*Shudders* Having a black line over your hard work would be hard to take. Were I you, I would have stabbed my computer.

I hope you enjoy the stories!

My! Maybe you are a future reader and do not know it. Though, Watson does kind of have a Hobbitish look to him...

Were you able to get some written this evening?

I am pleased the sword play in the trailer looks real. I had my doubts.
I fence, but you hand a sword to two fellows and say, "Let me show you some of the stances and such before you go at each other," and they go, "Right." So, I did show them how to stand and tried to show them how to swing...but when they did it, they were all stiff - actually, that one is in the bloopers.

This sword fight was not planned. I was going to leave it out all together, but someone had the camera on, and they had swords and they started to fight. And it looked MUCH better, so I used that one. So, it is good to know it looks believable.

I think he might have been trying to tell Watson as well. Him saying he had made it all up, I don't think that is at all in character for him and I think maybe he was hoping Watson would get the idea and know something was up.
I've heard someone else mention the ball he kept fiddling with as well. I didn't hear about him using it to stop his pulse, but someone said they thought it was important, and if it was used for his pulse that would make sense.
I am glad I'm not the only one with the drug theory. I was thinking I might be going a bit far with that one, but my brothers said there is such a drug. (I know some people can train themselves to slow their pulse.) I did not know that about the flower though. That is very interesting and a good proof.

I was very surprised at how well Moriarty pulled it all off. I almost believed him myself. He was a very good actor, and he thought out all the details.
Watson by the grave makes me cry as well. I was okay until that part. And when he walked away, hiding all his emotions, like before he met Sherlock.

I am eager for the next series, I'm curious to see how many of the clues the Sherlock fans got right. 8-)
